Brief - Distribution

One of the briefs set up by 13 Plaster was to create a poster based around the term distribution. Targeting the brief, Gaussin refers to the act of normal distribution,  a functionality present in equations, programming and design. The text  present in poster depicts this and describes the equations and format in which Gaussin can be found within computer programming. To highlight this subject the design effects within this piece have used Gaussin itself.

In mathematical representation Gaussian distribution is a bell-shaped curve, seen in graphs. Using details like this is why I have orchestrated certain design features,  area lines within the poster mirroring this mathematical curve.  In tone with this ‘geeky’ topic, I decided to create artwork inspired by bacteria the feature design on the poster. With Gaussin being a term found in both Maths and Science, this artwork combines the two subjects together.

In various cultures, green is often associated with safety, balance, and the normal state of things. Green traffic lights, for example, signal safety and permission to proceed. Green is also the colour of natural environments, conveying a sense of tranquility and equilibrium. Metaphorically, connecting the safety aspect of Gaussian distribution with the safety symbolism of the color green. Just as values within the normal range of a Gaussian distribution are considered typical and safe, the color green can represent a safe or normal state in various contexts.

This connection is metaphorical and relies on cultural and contextual associations. It's a creative way to link two concepts, but it's important to recognise that the colour associations are subjective and aren’t universally applicable.
